Treating Infertility

Assisted Reproductive Technologies

These techniques are typically used when simpler treatment options have not been effective or are inappropriate.

During the past 30 years, reproductive medicine has introduced many new techniques that have helped thousands of couples to overcome infertility. These techniques are typically used when simpler treatment options have not been effective or are inappropriate. The Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) have been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of fertility issues including tubal problems, low sperm count and infertility associated with advanced age. Prior to the introduction of these procedures, many couples with infertility had little or no chance of successfully achieving a pregnancy.

The most widely known ART is in vitro fertilization (IVF), but there are now other ART procedures that are commonly used in conjunction with IVF to treat patients with many different forms of infertility. This brochure provides a brief description of the assisted reproductive technologies that are commonly used by the medical team at RMA of New Jersey.
