In 2012, Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey (RMANJ) established the Helping Heroes Build Families program to help New Jersey-based active duty United States Military Services personnel and their spouses realize the dream of parenthood.

Since its introduction, RMANJ has provided over $150,000 dollars worth of free services to New Jersey-based active duty military personnel. Helping Heroes Build Families provides one complimentary in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle to qualifying New Jersey-based service members and their spouses. The cost of certain third-party services such as medication, anesthesia and complementary care (massage therapy, acupuncture, etc.) are not included. Based on the deserving nature of our recipients and the overwhelming success, RMANJ has extended its Helping Heroes Build Families program into 2014.

“Our military personnel and their families make extraordinary personal sacrifices to serve our country, and we feel honored to be able to give back to them in a meaningful way. Harnessing RMANJ’s expertise to help military personnel build families is important to our entire team, and it’s especially poignant for me and for my colleague Dr. Kim, a former Navy reproductive endocrinologist.”

Richard T. Scott, Jr., MD, FACOG, HCLD (and former USAF MD)

Helping Heroes Build Families addresses some of the access challenges that service members confront when they need IVF. For example, the U.S. military provides fertility treatment, but advanced services are only available at four locations around the country. Consequently, personnel stationed in New Jersey must travel to Washington, D.C. or further to receive treatment covered by the military’s Tricare health insurance system or pay out-of-pocket for services provided by private clinics.

Helping Heroes Build Families treats qualified patients at any of RMANJ’s seven New Jersey locations. Additionally, the clinic’s experts work closely with military medical professionals to ensure optimal continuity of care for patients.

To be eligible for Helping Heroes Build Families, patients must:

  • be active-duty United States Military Services personnel (or spouse of) in the United States Army, the United States Navy, the United States Air Force, the United States Marine Corps, or the United States Coast Guard.
  • serve on a U.S. military base or facility located in New Jersey.
  • have been properly screened and diagnosed in collaboration with MDL-based military healthcare providers.
