Dr. Drews had his first exposure to reproductive endocrinology as a third year medical student. Twenty-five years into his career, he says studying the origin of life continues to prove both humbling and awe-inspiring. “It’s never lost its wonder for me, from the very first embryo I looked at under a microscope to today,” he says. “It’s inherently fascinating.”

The constant introduction of new information and breakthrough advances also keeps the field stimulating; Dr. Drews says the shared vision of the RMANJ team is to be at the forefront of that innovation so that the couples they treat have the best advantage possible.

“For us, the entire field changes every five to ten years. We want to be not just one, but two steps ahead of the game,” he says. “We never, ever want to use yesterday’s technology, so we dedicate ourselves to developing tomorrow’s. That commitment directly translates into more successful outcomes for our patients.” Dr. Drew says many couples arrive at RMANJ after a difficult experience, slightly damaged and having all but lost hope. The goal then is to balance the odds in their favor, using the expertise and dedication of the entire RMANJ staff.

“You know the expression it takes a village to raise a child? Well here, it takes a village to make a child,” he says. “There is an entire team behind our lab whom patients will never meet, yet who have a tremendous impact on what we do and who have played an integral role in creating that pregnancy.” Dr. Drews was born and raised in the farming communities of eastern Long Island, and remains an avid fisherman and horticulturist. “I would probably have been a farmer or a Peconic bayman if biology and medicine had not captured my attention.”

Dr. Drews is a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist, Obstetrician and Gynecologist, also serving as Clinical Associate Professor for the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, performed his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, NY, and completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at Mount Sinai Medical School.

Dr. Drews is the recipient of the Purdue Frederick Award from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a Member Prize Paper Award from the American Fertility Society. In recognition of his outstanding work with patients, he received the highest honor from RESOLVE of New Jersey, the 2002 Zenith Award, and received The American Fertility Association’s Family Building Award in 2004.
