Dr. Doreen Hock always liked the idea of working in women’s health and treating female patients, but it was the intellectual stimulation of reproductive endocrinology which led her to the specialty. “What I loved about it was that it felt like a puzzle,” she says. “Particularly with endocrinology, you have to use the knowledge you learn along the way to put the pieces of that puzzle together.”
Within the field as a whole, Dr. Hock says rapid advancements make it an exciting specialty; one in which positive changes are evident in a short period of time. “It’s amazing to see the technology and things we couldn’t do even three years ago,” she says. “I have repeat patients come back to have a second child and I’m able to say ‘Okay, here’s what we did last time; but here’s what we can do now.’”
Specializing in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL), Dr. Hock says the newest and most validated technologies being pioneered at RMANJ are incredibly impactful. “SelectCCS [Comprehensive Chromosome Screening] is a significant step in the right direction,” she says, referring to a breakthrough process used to determine the most viable embryo for single transfer. “So much of this cutting edge research occurs right here at RMANJ; we are leaders, not followers.” When not working, Dr. Hock enjoys being outside and active with her kids, is an avid runner, and is improving her tennis game.
Dr. Hock is a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist, Obstetrician and Gynecologist, as well as Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She also received her medical degree, performed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
